Stats and Skills - Battle Mechanics Empty
PostSubject: Stats and Skills - Battle Mechanics   Stats and Skills - Battle Mechanics EmptyTue Jul 23, 2013 6:58 am

Strength Stat Checks – A Strength Check occurs when two attacking stats come into contact with one another. This could be when perhaps two enemies are in combat with one another and they lock swords , prompting the players of the characters to need to know, “Who's stronger? Who is overpowering who?” Another potential scenario is when two spiritual attacks come in contact with one another; perhaps two Hadō are fired and clash with one another. Who's Hadō was stronger? Who's will win? Perhaps, even, someone wants to slice that incoming Cero in half, so they check their Strength Stat against the opponent's Spirit Attack. For Strength Stat Checks, one of the two Strength stats will be pitted against the opponent's Attacking Stat, be it their Strength or Spirit. Strength Stat Checks come into play when clashing with an opponent for offense or defense.

–Attacking Stat is between 51+ of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a dominant offense strike, which would literally push through any offense of the opponents as though there were nothing there.

–Attacking Stat is between 26 and 50 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a superior offense over their opponent. The attacker can clearly push through the opponent's attacks, busting through with greater ease.

–Attacking Stat is between 11 and 25 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having an advantaged offense over their opponent. When one is attacking while having an the advantage over their opponent, opposition will be clear, though the attacker's blade will break through the opponent's opposition.

–Attacking Stat is between -10 and 10 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as an equivalent offense strike, with whoever has the higher stat will be slightly overpowering the opposing person. However, no winner can be declared.

–Attacking Stat is between -80 and -11 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a disadvantaged offense over their opponent. They will find that they are incapable of busting their opponent's offense. It'd be wise to retreat.

Defense Stat Checks – A Defending Stat Check occurs when an Attacking Stat, be it Strength or Spirit, comes into contact with a character's body. The character that is being struck has either not attempted to dodge or block, or is incapable of blocking or dodging, or has tried to block or dodge and has failed the required check. Defense Stat Checks let you know about how much damage you should take when comparing an opponent's Attacking Stat to your Defense Stat.

–Defending Stat is between 51+ of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a dominant defense strike, which wouldn't pose even the slightest threat. Their blade cannot even scratch you. Their energy attacks only heat up your skin; no worse than walking outside on a hot day.

–Defending Stat is between 26 and 50 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a superior defense over their opponent. The defender can suffer minor cuts and burns, depending on the nature of the attack. Bruising is possible. Attacks of this nature can be compared to coming into contact with a very angry cat, or burning your body briefly over an open flame.

–Defending Stat is between 11 and 25 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having an advantaged defense over their opponent. The defender will suffer slightly deeper wounds. The muscle is not typically reached when the defender suffers sword wounds, so it's nothing too serious. When coming into contact with energy attacks, the defender can suffer painful wounds, though nothing too serious.

–Defending Stat is between -10 and 10 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as an equivalent defense to the opponent's offense. Sword strikes move through flesh easily, cutting down to the muscle though usually stopping before it cleaves completely through. Energy attacks give serious burns, singing flesh badly. You wouldn't want to suffer too many wounds at this level, as things could get deadly.

–Defending Stat is between -11 and -25 of the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having an disadvantaged defense over their opponent. Blade strikes have an easier time cutthing through muscle and will typically go partially through a bone. Energy attacks cause extensive and painful burns over the area they come in contact with, beginning to melt the defender's flesh.

–Defending Stat is between -26 and lower than the Opponent's Attacking Stat can be deemed as having a superior disadvantage over their opponent. The opponent can cut the defender's limbs clean from their body or leave large gashes over other portions of the body. Energy attacks are likely to burn straight through the area they come in contact with. You do not want to be up against an opponent who outmatches you on this level. It is not wise.

…...........................

Speed Stat Checks – A Speed stat Check occurs whenever a character moves. Additionally, Speed Stat Checks also occur when an opponent attacks and an opponent attempts to react. The higher your speed is in comparison to your opponent's, the less likely they will be able to read your movements. The higher your attack speed is than your opponent's speed, the less likely they will be able to react before they are struck. Keep in mind that there are two stats when it comes to speed; first, you have the Speed Stat, which defines all physical speed, including your character running speed, Hohō speed and physical attack speed; you also have the Spirit Stat, which governs your character's Spiritual Attack Speed, along with it's Strength.

–Speed Stat is between 51+ of the Opponent's Speed Stat can be deemed as having a dominant speed, which translates to you being able to move quicker than your opponent can even perceive. Imagine Yoruichi going up against somebody like Tenth Espada Yammy.

–Speed Stat is between 26 and 50 of the Opponent's Speed Stat can be deemed as having a superior speed over their opponent. Your opponent can see you as though you were a very laggy video on YouTube whose framerates were skipping badly. They may have enough visual information to react if you're far away from them, though up close is a different story.

–Speed Stat is between 11 and 25 of the Opponent's Speed Stat can be deemed as having an advantaged speed over their opponent. You are moving quicker than your opponent can, that's for sure, and they'd be hard pressed to match your movements. If you're fighting against them, let's just say you're more likely to be on the defensive than the offensive.

–Speed Stat is between -10 and 10 of the Opponent's Speed Stat can be deemed as an equivalent Speed. For all intents and purposes, you appear to be moving at about the same speed. You're quite evenly matches and can keep up with each other nicely.

…...........................

Skill Checks – Skill Checks are Checks that occur between two physical skills. In real life, you might be stronger than someone who is wielding a sword, but just because you're stronger and you have a sword does not mean that if the two of you come into contact, that you will win. The more skilled user will maintain an advantage over you, simply because they have more practice and experience wielding their weapon. Skill Checks only occur when it comes to attacks that are governed by a physical skill – Zanjutsu and Hakuda. Skill Checks do not occur when a physical attack goes up against an energy attack, because when it down to it, the power of the energy attack has little to do with skill and more to do with raw power, so no matter how skilled you are with your blade, if that energy attack carries more energy than you do, it will win.

When two physical attacks clash – be they governed by Zanjutsu or Hakuda – a skill check will occur. For every skill level your skill is above your opponent's, treat the resulting Stat Comparison as one rank in your favor. For example, if I did a Stat Check against an opponent and my opponent had 15 more Strength than I did, he would be at Advantaged Offense. However, because my Zanjutsu Skill Rank was one rank higher than his Zanjutsu Skill Rank, we would instead be equivalent as an end result. This applies to both the Strength and Speed of a physical attack. This only comes into play when both you and your opponent are attacking – or one is attacking and the other is defending.

If your opponent has more than 50 points above you and, as a result, has dominant offense compared to you, your skill check will not come into effect. Sadly, it is a truth that at a certain point, raw strength can and does overcome skill, though so rare it is that it rarely must be accounted for.
