Wandering the darkness

I like the night; it fits me far better then day. At night I can listen to the sound of the night animals, the sound of the rain during storms, and just the sound of silence. Not to mention...my other problem. No one can see them in the dark.

No one can see the burns.

I move into Karakura's most major park; as I expected, no one is in my radius, as far as I can tell; it IS past ten. For a moment, I consdier lowering my hood and pulling down my collar so more then just my eyes and nose can be seen; I change my mind. I don't want anything to see me like this.

I don't want anyone to try and get close to me.

The darkness goes on, I hear an owl hoot nearby. I lean against a tree, shutting my eyes.

Yuki sat in an large oak tree in the human world like she always did. It was a beautiful, dark, quiet night; & nights like this always made her feel at peace. She always had good dreams here, & bad dreams in Hueco Mundo, which was one of the reasons why she loved the human world so much. Yuki was humming a gentle tune as she looked up to the moon, swinging her legs gently. "I wish I could sleep.." she murmured to herself with a soft smile, "But.." Yuki yawns, "I need to watch out for the shinigami..."
About a moment after she said this, she heard footsteps underneath the tree she was sitting on, which was enough to snap her out of her half-sleep. Yuki pulled her legs from under the branch so that she can sit on them & listened carefully.

Tomix kept walking. Silence continued to reign around him, at least outside his head. Inside it, his mind moved at a mile a minute, wondering about the possible situations that could arise around him. His paranoia, combined with social anxiety, created a truly perilous mix for him. He sighed.
"Maybe...Maybe I can pull down the hood for a bit...No one's around..to see them.." He thought to himself.

With that thought, he pulled down the hood, exposing his midnight black hair, almost blending in with the darkness, like his trench coat anyway. Even in the dark, the scars marking the left side of his face were still practically invisible, his fringe covering it further helping the situation. Tomix sighed again. He leaned against a large oak tree and turned his gaze to the skies.

Somthing else caught his eye. Just above him, was a person. A girl. Probably looking right at him.

His blood ran cold. A person.

Yuki listened closely, with her eyes closed she both focused hard on her hearing & also not to fall asleep. But she couldn't help it; Yuki soon heard herself make an small yawning sound & even felt the bark of the tree on her side. But still she listened to the person under her. When the rustling of the grass stopped under her, nothing stopped Yuki from falling asleep now; she let out a deep sigh & her head slowly fell forward, falling into an soft sleep. Yuki didn't snore, but her breathing was slightly more noticeable now that she wasn't trying to control it.

Tomix fought the urge to simply run. Sure, he wanted to try and deal with his social anixety, but he was not accustomed to mysterious girls sitting in trees above him. He stared at the ground, doing everything he could not to look at the girl.
"...She might...not have seen me. This could be worse. She might stay th-" And then, her snores began to fill the space around them.

"She's...She's asleep." Tomix could barely dispell his belief. She was sleeping. In a tree. As far as strange encounters with women Tomix could remember, this was one of the strangest. He couldn't just leave her there; she could fall out of the tree and hurt herself! But to do so, he would have to wake her up, and that would mean communicating with her.

"Damn my brain.." Tomix moaned internally. He looked up the tree, at the girl two metres above him. Speaking in a loud tone (for him), Tomix asked the girl:
"A-Are you...o-o-o-okay?" He stuttered.

His blood stayed cold. Human. Contact.

Yuki flinched slightly when the man under her spoke to her, opening one eye slowly & then the other. She yawned & then spoke in an soft, tired voice; "What do you want..? If you couldn't notice, I'm trying to sleep.. besides.. you're breaking the rules.." she yawned once more & began to rub her eyes. "Humans are not supposed to see me."
Still rubbing her right eye, she looked down to the man under her, trying to resist the urge to yawn again.

Oh god, Oh god, I woke up her up, what am I doing, What am I-...
Tomix attempted to regain at least some of this composure as she began to talk to him. And by regain his composure, he pulled the hood back over his head so she could just see his emerald eyes. The terrified 18 year old looked up at the girl when she asked him a question - the last thing he wanted.
"W-Well, you fell a-a-asleep up there, and I-I woke you u-up because you might have f-f-f-fallen down.." Tomix mumbled a bit too quietly.

He furrowed his hiden brow when she said he was breaking the rules - the fact that he could see her. Did that mean..was she a...?

She watched the man for a moment, and gave in to the small yawn that was creeping up onto her. Yuki stretched her arms above her head & let herself slip off of the thick branch of the tree, soon landing perfectly on her feet almost right next to the man. "I don't want to go back just yet.." she murmured softly, looking up at the moon with a sad face. Then suddenly she turned her head to face the man beside her, her face serious. "Is that all you wanted? To interrupt my sleep..?"
The moment she said the word, 'sleep' Yuki's eyes drooped & she yawned slightly; but she quickly shook it off.

Yep. Tomix was certain. She wasn't human. Sure, he'd run into non-human creatures before in this town; Hollows and Shinigami. But she definently wasn't a Hollow, and she didn't look like a Shinigami, so what was...
Tomix swore his heart stopped when she landed right next to him. Luckily his hood was up, or he might have bolted right at that moment. So she didn't want to go back...back where?

She's looking at me. Tomix thought with a horrified expression to match. He had to force out words to reply to her.

"I-I didn't mean to d-d-disturb you, I-i-it's just you m-m-might have fallen and h-h-hurt yourself...?" Tomix answered nervously, not sure if he was stating a fact or asking a question.

She listened to the man as he talked, finally noticing how scared he was. Her expression changed quickly upon noticing this & she smiled gently. "Thank you for that, but I don't think the fall from that tree would hurt me that much." she paused & looked up at the moon again. "& don't worry, I am not like other Arrancars.. who wish to kill & fight just for fun.. They would probably attack you on sight if they were in the mood.." Yuki grimaced as she said this, then looked from the moon back to the man with an kind smile again. "You have no reason to be scared of me, I only wish to visit the human world every once & awhile just to see it's beauty." She smiled again, although this time, an sad smile.

Tomix can tell that she finally understood what he had been trying to do. He furrowed his hidden brow at the mention of Arrancar; he didn't know what they were. Shinigami and Hollows. But not Arrancar. He suddenly felt like he should actually respond to what she was saying.
"I-I'm not such a p-p-pushover. I've got m-m-my gauntlets." He stammered. At her mention of the 'other Arrancar' she seemed to grimace.

And then she looked at him again, smiling. And she told him he shouldn't be scared.
"She doesn't understand" Tomix thought. "No one can understand why I'm not scared. This isn't fear..."
Tomix shook his head. He pulled forward his hood a little more.
"S-s-scared isn't the w-w-word I'd use t-t-to d-describe it."

She was surprised by his comeback, but just smiled. "If you are not feeling fear, then what is it you are feeling?" she asked in a soft tone to the human, taking a small step toward him, a kind smile on her face. Yuki tried not to startle the man as she stepped toward him & studied his covered face as best as she could.

I don't know what it is that I feel...Tomix thought to himself. He tried to put his feelings into words.
"I-I've had a complicated h-h-history. A-A lot has h-h-happened to me..." He murmred to her. Alarm bells went out inside his head. She stepped towards him, and Tomix could tell that she was studying his face, trying to see past the hood that shielded him from the outside world.

Every instinct told him to run away, run away, run away. But for some reason he didn't. He didn't pull down his hood to show her his scars, but he didn't run.

It felt strange.

Yuki stopped walking towards him when she noticed that he was uncomfortable by her getting closer to him, but frowned when he spoke. "I wish I could remember my human past.." Yuki looked back up to him & smiled. "I don't know what you are going through, but it will get better someday. I promise." She bent down & grabbed an small pink-ish box from what looked like the area around her right boot.
When she straightened out, one could see that she was holding an unopened pocky box containing strawberry flavored pocky. Yuki looked at it & smiled. "This is my last box, but I feel like you might need it more than me." She smiled as she held it out to him. Yuki didn't understand why she was acting like this, she never got close to anyone, especially humans.

Tomix looked up at her when she stopped walking towards him. He realised she realised he was uncomftable. He suddenly felt remorseful for this. He listened with a sad expression.
"Y-You don't k- k-know...You c-could remember...M-me, it'll be a l-l-long time until I-I'l be better..."

He watched on as she pulled out the pink box, and then, to his suprise, offer it to him
"A-are you s-s-sure?...I-If you insist...But..." It would be selfish for him to take and not give. Slowley, he knew shat do. Almost, as if in pain, he pulled down his hood, exposing his face, scars and all, below his fringe. He took the box.
"I-i-i only thought it w-w-was fair...To d-do somthing in r-r-return..."


He went quiet. He'd shown too much.

She smiled when he took the pocky box from her & replied, "Sweets always make me feel better." But to her surprise, he slowly began to take off his hood & eventually take the whole hood off. She giggled slightly, covering her mouth; then looked at the man with an kind expression. "You're silly. Is that all that it was?" she walked forward & took his hands quickly then continued, "Why do you hide such a thing under that piece of clothing..? Something that has made you stronger?" She kept a gentle smile as she spoke; speaking in a gentle voice, "Stop downing yourself please; You will only hurt yourself more that way."

Tomix's eyes remained on the ground after revealing his face...until she called him silly, telling him not to hide the scars...
She took his hands. His entire being screamed out to run and hide, and he noticbly flinched as she touched his left hand. The scars on his hands were tender, after all. Despite all these warning bells, he remained rooted to the ground. Not sure what to do. It felt like years since anyone held his hands..

"I-I've been so i-i-isolated...for s-so long...The s-s-scars...my face...drove e-e-everyone away. " Memories began to flood back.

Tomix began to shake, his raven hair rippling.

'Why do I feel such things, at a time like this..? For a human of all things..??' she questioned herself as Yuki held the human's hands, but still looked at him with an kind smile. But as the man talked, his whole body began to shake in remembrance. "Please don't.." She whispered softly, looking to the ground now. "Please don't cry.." as she said this, her grip tightened slightly.
Suddenly, a pain came into her chest, an familiar pain around her hollow hole that Yuki had felt before but she was not where before. 'Why am i feeling such things?!' she screamed at herself in her head. Suddenly she felt something roll down her cheeks. Yuki frantically took an hand & touched her cheek, noticing tears running from her eyes over & over again. "W.. What is this..?!"

She was still looking at him. She was still smiling at him. She didn't recoil at the sight of his scars; sure, she'd only seen his face, and his body was worse, but...her seeing his smile at him made him warm inside. As if through a haze, he heard her tell him not to cry; but then she was crying as well, her hands were shaking in his, and when they began to shake, he let go out of instinct.

"I-I-I'm sorry! I d-d-d-didn't want to u-u-upset you..." Tomix stuttered. His mind was screaming, but he was ignoring it. He stepped forward, taking her left hand into his right hand. He just held his left hand in the air, staring at the purple-red burn scars that covered it.
She hasn't seen all of my face...all the scar, the burns...h-how would she react? Tomix thought.

Yuki wasn't surprised when he dropped her hand when she began crying, but when he took it again she looked to him. He wasn't looking as her, the man was looking as his own hand, it was a color unlike the scars on his face. She shook her head as she looked to the ground. "Stupid." She continued to shake it rather violently after this, saying that word over & over again, "Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" she paused for a moment & let the tears just run off of her cheeks then continued, "You're scars don't make you, you, right??" she squeezed his hand. "Why should they matter?"

Now she was yelling at, yelling about the scars, yelling about how stupid he was. Why wouldn't he move? His brain was pulling him in two directions. In probably the most outrageous decision he made that night night, he let go of her hands.

And then threw his arms around her.

And he began to cry. Every emotion, everything poured out of him ib those moments. He wept and moaned until all the tears were gone. When he was done, he looked at her. They were now much closer, because of the hug.

"I-I never told you...I-I'm T-T-Tomix."

Yuki never thought that visiting the human world would lead to this. She never thought she would become close to another person again after her best friend was killed in Las Noches, because of her.. Yuki didn't want that to happen again.
To her surprise he wrapped his arms around her & began to cry with Yuki. Tears that already began to slow down in her eyes began to overflow again. This lasted for about ten minutes before they both began to calm down. The man was first to move; looking directly at her, he told Yuki his name. She smiled slightly & with a little hiccup she replied, "Yuki.."

Slowley, he calmed himself down enough, to hear her tell him her own name: Yuki. Tomix smiled.
"...Yuki." He repeated. He suddenly realised how close they were now, and removed his arms from her shoulders, his face reddening, clashing horribly with the ugly purple-red scars of his left side.
"Uh...S-Sorry about t-t-that...I got a little...e-e-emotinal..." Tomix looked at the ground.
Smooth move, idiot. Tomix thought glumly. Here was the first human contact he had in ages, and he was already losing it.

His heart kept beating strong.

She smiled when he said her name, and also when he apologized for blushing; but when the thoughts she had just a few moments ago came back into her head during an moment of silence, Yuki couldn't help but take a step back slightly. "I, I'm sorry," she stuttered, looking at the ground. "I promised myself not to get close to anyone anymore.." she paused & balled her fists; her nails digging into her palms so much so that they were drawing a bit of blood. "Because I didn't want to lose them again.." The tears that had dried up from her eyes began to roll down her cheeks again. "I'm sorry.. I'm sorry... I'm sorry.." Yuki said over & over again, clenching her nails into her palms harder & harder.

Tomix smiled back at her - a wide genuine smile, a rare sight for Tomix.
It was a shame her next words brought everything in his heart crashing down. His smile risappeared. Somthing inside him broke.
"But I-I..." Nothing else came out. He tried again.
"I-I thought..."

He began to shake. He'd opened up to this girl, told her about his scars...and now she had just discarded him...
Breathe. Breathe. He thought to himself.
He collapsed on his knees.
Breatge. Breathe.
"Yuki...I..." He stopped again.
And then the tears came.
